Beginner Level A2 on the CEFR
In the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), A2 is considered the second level of proficiency for non-native speakers of a language. It’s also referred to as the “Basic User” level. At First Business English the A2 level for English speakers of a foreign language are expected to understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
You can introduce yourself and others, ask and answer questions about personal details such as where you live, people you know, and things you have. You can also interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. You will be able to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance such as very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, and employment.
You can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Overall, at the A2 level, learners have a basic understanding of the language and are able to communicate in simple, everyday situations, but your vocabulary and grammar are limited. Keep in mind that these descriptions are general guidelines, and individuals may exhibit variations in their language abilities even within the same CEFR level.
